As a professional hairstylist I receive messages (daily) with questions about the crazy things different seasons bring upon our hair. The main one in winter is the dry, flaky scalp issue - which is such a pest and 100% normal. (Especially here in the south.) We are SO used to the humid weather, and with our lack of "real winters" the past couple of years, this actual cold one has us all remembering what true freezing, dry air can bring.
This cold weather also has my working fingers not moving as quickly while texting, SO I figured I would write my first blog post on this issue. Fitting because I, myself, have been fighting this issue as well. Although it's nice to not wash my hair but once a week (it's not gross, it's actually healthy) this weather has wreaked quite the havoc on my scalp. I'll show you pictures of my "go-to" products during this season. I tell my clients it's more of a like a "scalp facial" that we should be doing once a week, or every two, instead of a daily hair care.
Just a little backstory on products.. We ALL use a variety of products; dry shampoo, styling mousse, volumizing sprays, and (in Tennessee) half a can of hairspray per style. Whether professional or drugstore your products will create product build up if not cleansed properly. (The difference on these coming in another post because you don't want this to become a novel.) So I recommend doing this on a Sunday night before the work week. I choose to also doing an at-home facial too, because I REALLY like to be "extra" as they say in today's lingo. You don't have to use these exact products, these are just the ones I personally like or trying new for this post. I will break each down in the order I used them...
Well, thanks for checking out my first blog post.. and I hope this helps you if you have any scalp issues during the winter weather. We have a couple more months of this so I thought now is the best time to be prepping for the harsh dry air. If you have any questions OR any questions of your own you would like me to share on comment on my latest instagram post and I will definitely help in any way I can. Have a wonderful MONDAY!
